The Last of the Previews: Tulsa @ New Mexico and Southern Utah @ SDSU

So will this game be a bigger blowout then last week loss to Texas A&M?  Tulsa is known for its prolific offense more then Texas A&M, and last week the Aggies beat New Mexico 41-6.  New Mexico should be better then Tulsa's previous opponents who was Tulane.

Tulsa does have a new quarterback in GJ Kinne who was decent against Tulane with 211 yards and a touchdown pass.   The 37 points was deceiving because Tulsa was not great offensively, it actually was their defense that forced two turnovers which made the offensive stats not be as prolific as they are known for.

Look for Tulsa to open up the passing game because the New Mexico defense was poorous and allowed over 600 yards of total offense with 361 passing.  It is not like that Aggie offense was great the year before, however Tulsa is known for their offense historically.

The Tulsa defense is nothing special last year they were in shootouts in a lot of games, but their defense is able to force turnovers and take advantage of short fields given to them.  Tulsa should little problem stopping this offense that is still learning the Mike Locksley system.

Expect New Mexico to be much better with a game under their belt with the new offense.  QB Donovan Porterie is a good quarterback, and I wonder how much he is still favoring that knee from recovering from an ACL injury.   The passing game was in full effect after trailing 20-0 early which forced New Mexico to throw forty times.  The Lobos must have a running game to be able to balance the offense and keep Tulsa honest.

The Lobo defense which was decent last year, but in this opener it showed they were not comfortable with the switch from a 3-3-5 to a 4-3 defense.  They were not able to defend the rush or the pass in this game and were embarassed defensively.  This Tulsa game better see some improvement for the Lobos in order for them to compete.

New Mexico should improve but Tulsa has a very good offense and Tulsa should win this by a few scores.

San Diego State showed up pretty good for the first quarter, but then came undone by allowing 33 straight points.  SDSU desperately needs to beat Southern Utah who is another FCS team.  Last week Southern Utah played division two Dixie State, and this game will be a big jump compared to beating up on Dixie State.

QB Ryan Lindley should have a monster game against this defense which should give them no problems.  However last year SDSU did llost to FCS Cal Poly.   Bray Hoke has this team in the right direction even if it did not show last week, but this week wil give teh Aztecsa  chance to gain some confidence.

Southern Utah won 36-7 and their offense was powered behind RB Austin Minefee who ran all over Dixie with 147 yards and then WR Fesi Sitake who had 91 yards.  Those are the guys who San Diego State needs to watch in this game.

SDSU will win this game comfortably.
