Jay Drew, Salt Lake Tribune: Apparently their have been zero complaints about BYU canceling their spring game being canceled. Well that is if you ask BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall who said:
"Haven't received one [complaint], I am not sure whether it is in relation to the game, or that people know now that I will return their email and I will be very blunt with them. I am not sure now if it is they are just not interested, or they are afraid to email. I like it how it is."
Is Bronco really that removed? The reason there have been no emails is because his email is not listed on the faculty web site or on the BYU athletic site. Fans are upset that they are not able to see how the new players will do, but their is not an outrage of not having this game.
In my opinion BYU is missing the point on not having the spring game even though Bronco has said
"Our stadium is a special place and that's where I want to play the spring game."
Are BYU fans just doing following protocol by saying 'Yes Bronco' or 'Whatever You Say Bronco?' Or could it be that they do not really care all that much for the spring game.
Kelly Lyell, The Coloradoan: Quarterback Alex Kelly from Colorado State has announced he will transfer from the school to pursue a career in baseball. Kelly was not considered to be contending to start, but in 2010 and beyond he would have had a shot since the other three quarterbacks are all in the same class along with one junior college transfer.
The move gives the Rams only two healthy quarterbacks in spring, Farris is still recovering from an injury he suffered in the fall, senior Grant Stucker and junior college transfer Jon Eastman. This cold be a good thing with these two quarterbacks getting more reps then had Kelly been around and if Klay Kubiak was healthy.
"My heart's in baseball, and that's what I've got to do," said Kelly, an all-Colorado selection in football and baseball his senior year at Rocky Mountain High School. "It was a tough decision."
Kelly wants to play division one baseball, and might even take a junior college route to get to a division one baseball school.
Graham Watson, ESPN.com:
The Utes made a few changes along the offensive line and defensive line during the last few days at practice. Neli A'asa injured his an injured knee which is not healing after having arthroscopic knee surgery in January, and this means there will be movement along the offensive line. The big move is that Zane Tayler who was an honorable mention All-Mountain West center in 2008 is moving to A'asa's position. This then forces former back up center Tevita Stevens to the starting center posit on.
New offensive coordinator Dave Schramm stressed, "no permanent decisions have been made, but we are looking at some new combinations to try and get the best players on the field."
On the defensive side Nai Fotu is moving from linebacker back to defensive end, which is where he was recruited to play when arriving to Utah. Last year at linebacker Fotu had 35 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble. The move came out of necessity because of injuries to the linebacking corp in 2008.
Chris Foster, LA Times: For all of those BYU fans still bitter at Ben Olson for transferring to UCLA after his two year Mormon mission, well he re-injured his foot and was unable to participate in UCLA's pro day. Olson was rated as the top high school quarterback in the country out of Thousand Oaks High in 2002 but he never reached the level that was expected. Olson spent one season at Brigham Young, then went on a two-year Mormon mission before transferring to UCLA.
In the past three seasons at UCLA Olson only say action in twelve games, and for the foot this was his third time injuring the same foot.
