Making The Rounds

BlockU: "The biggest question entering spring is that of quarterback for the upcoming season. Brian Johnson, owning the most wins for a quarterback in school history."

There are four quarterbacks who are in consideration who are Junior Corbin Louks, Redshirt Freshman DeVonte Christopher, JUCO Terrance Cain, and true freshman Jordan Wynn. Most likely it will come down to Louks and Cain with perhaps Christopher being a change of pace QB, then finally Wynn will redshirt as he bulks up his 175 pound frame.

Denver Post, Irv Moss : Air Force QB Tim Jefferson was sitting out with grade troubles returned to spring practice Monday March 9th.

"It was rough not being able to practice with my teammates, but earlier this week I told them that depending on how my grades are I could get back on the field more next week," said Jefferson. "I've made progress with my academics. I caught things in time."

1280 The Zone: Interview from current and former Utah football athletes today.

Utah QB Terrance Cain

Former Utah DB Brice McCain

Former Utah QB Brian Johnson

Salt Lake Tribune, Lya Wodraska: Pro day came to Utah to see the other players who did not get invites to the combine and a few players proved themselves. "A notable performance of the day was by corner Brice McCain, who ran a 4.24. With that kind of speed a team might take a chance on McCain."

QB Brian Johnson impreessed well enough that some scouts talked abou Johnson as being a smart player who could be an NFL lifer as a back up. That may sound like a back handed compliment, but Johnson is smart enough to pick up systems and not mess up the problem is his arm strength and speed of his passes.

Fort-Worth Star-Telegraph, Mercedes Mayer: Back up quarterback and occassional starter Marcus Jackson is being moved to Safety.

"I’m going to have to be a little more physical than I thought," Jackson said, smiling. "But I’ll find some good technique and roll with it. I have it in me."

The reason for the move is because of TCU's 4-2-5 defense and the secondary depth is weak and Jackson has the speed to play the position, but Jackson who is currently second on the depth chart will need to bulk up for more hitting and start reacing instead of thinking.

Colorado Springs Gazatte, Jake Schaller: Spring ball is the time to experiment for coaches to try players out at new positions, and at Air Force fullback Jared Tew is taking snaps at tailback.

"I think it gives us a little bit bigger tailback, and I just want to see him at both spots," Calhoun said. "I think it gives us a little bit more flexibility with personnel groups too if he's able to play both positions."

Tew is not that big at 6-2 210 pounds and that size is on the small size of a full back, and the switch to running back also may come from Air Force moving Asher Clark from tailback to quarterback.
