Blake Miller Joins Utah Football Staff

The Utes finally filled out their coaching staff and today announced that Blake Miller would be the new offensive line coach for Utah. Prior to coming to Utah Miller held the same position at Rice during the past two years. The last two years of Rice were their most successfull and last year they went 10-3 along with a bowl win, which was their best finish in school history.

Miller's other college coaching experience was at Texas State (2000-02 and 2004-06), SMU (2003) and Northwestern State (1997-2000). He spent four seasons as a high school coach in Louisiana (Episcopal High) and Texas (Kilgore High) from 1994-97.

Besides being a part of the 8th best offense in the country, Miller brings an aspect to Utah that Louis Wong from Timpview High School in Utah could not. That would be in the recruiting process. Utah has several players from Texas, and coach Wittingham has hinted at adding a third coach to the Austin/San Antonio area to bolster their presence. By adding Miller who coached in the state at the high school and college level, gives the Utes for the first time a coach on their staff from the Texas area.

No disrespect to Louis Wong, but getting a guy with local ties to a recruiting area such as Texas has better long term prospects that bringing in Xavier Su’a-Filo and other great players from Utah County. Besides Utah will nearly always be on these local players as they will be drawn toward Utah as long as they are good.
