BYU Recruit faces DUI charges, still stays with Cougars

Kyle Van Noy, a highly recruited linebacker and tight end from McQueen High in Reno, Nev., was charged last weekend with driving under the influence of alcohol and will not join the team until January 2010, according to The Sal Lake Tribune. At BYU just being in the presence of alcohol at a party is a no-no for the Honor Code, which is something all students must sign before they enroll. This case is odd because this was before Van Noy was on campus he was charged with DUI, and it is good that BYU did not just slam the door and tell him no he can not come to the school.

Van Noy will face punishment and not be able to play for the team in 2009, even though coach Bronco Mendenhall suggested that Van Noy could contribute in 2009. This miscue did give him the option of choosing other schools, but Van Noy decided to stick it out with BYU. Van Noy is listed as an athlete and a four star recruit from Rivals, and would play linebacker for BYU. His stats from last year were 69 tackles, 25 for loss, 7 sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
