Breaking News: Xavier Su'a-Filo signs with UCLA not Utah

Earlier today Xavier Su'a-Filo announced his decision and it was a shocker to most as he chose UCLA over USC and local Utah. His high school coach Louis Wong was in the running to become the o-line coach at Utah and interview this past week for the job, however no announcement has been made.

A few thoughts on this is that Su'a-Filo found out that his coach did not get the job so he chose UCLA where he knew he would play early, even though that is the same situation at Utah which has been the better program the past five years. Another possibility why he did not choose USC is that they did not want to wait on his decision and hold a scholarship just in case for a player who may not come to their school.

There could be the ESPN factor to choose because Xavier Su'a-Filo revealed his decision on ESPNU, and he was rated in the ESPN 150 list and the number three overall offensive line recruit.

My opinion is that he wanted to be with his high school coach and that was not announced, and the pressure to announce on signing day and on ESPNU was a contributing factor. This would have been a great recruit for Utah, but this does not make or break their class which is considered one of the best of the non-BCS and comparable to the mid to low end schools like Iowa State and Indiana.

This also, could be good news for Utah because had Xavier waited to sign the Utes would have held a scholarship for him. During the days Utah would have ended up missing out on other players that wanted to go to Utah while waiting on Xavier.
