The Sugar Bowl win in the 2008 seasn can be traced back to the 2004 season when Utah also went undefeated and won a BCS bowl game. The benefits of winning the Fiesta Bowl would take a few years to show, and it did last year with the 13-0 season. The Sugar Bowl win may not sway top notch recruits this year, but it should turn more high profile recruits to Utah and it gives the Utes a chance to compete with any school in the West, with exception of USC. However, still being in the Mountain West has its draw backs, because the Utes or anyone in this league is guaranteed at the big boy table in the BCS.
This year alone Utah has swayed quarterback Jordan Wynn who verbally committed Colorado to Utah, they have signed the number rated junior college player in the nation in James Aiono, also the Utes are close to signing two ESPNU top 150 prospects. The Utah class is looking to be one of the strongest in years, and soon the Utes will try to not dip after a very successful year. Back in 2005 the Utes still went to a bowl game but were 8-5, with the recent success Utah will want to contend every year for a conference title and a BCS run.
