2/9/2008 MWC Basketball Preview

This weekends games start the secound matchup between the leagues teams, and seeding is heating up for the conference tournament in Vegas in 4 weeks.

Daniel-Meyer Colliseum 2PM CT TV:

TCU started off at 3-1 in league play but since then the Horned Frogs have lost 4 straight and are currently just one game ahead of Wyoming for the 8th spot in the leauge. This came has the potential to be a reprive for TCU because San Diego State struggles a lot on the road just look back on with their one point win over Colorado State and a mere 5 point win over New Mexico. This game could get interesting if TCU decides to get back on track and want to participate in the second half of the conference race. Look for San Diego State to get off of their road snide by running over TCU.

(6-16) (17-5)

Thomas & Mack Center 3PM PT TV:

This game could not have come at a better time for UNLV, and look for them to take out their frustration on Colorado State since the Rebels lost their last game to Utah. The Rams just do not have the talent to beat UNLV and especially defeat them on the road in the desert. Look for Wink Adams to show up big after not doing so at Utah, if you are a fan of either team you should watch, but others there is no need to watch after the first 10 minutes before UNLV runs away with this.

(13-8) (12-9)

Clune Arena 4PM MT TV: CSTV PPV

This a game to see if the Utes can keep the momentum up and also defeat a surprsing oppenent on the road in Air Force. Last game for Utah both Johnnie Bryant and Luke Nevill scored a combined 50 plus points for the win. Now in this game the team will be lucky to score that amount because of the style Air Force plays, but the percentage of points scored by Bryant and Nevill still needs to be high in this game. Air Force has not won back to back games since mid December and besides that both teams are looking to jocky to try to get into the top 4 and just maybe the top 3 seed for the conference tournament. The first time around Utah crushed the Falcons but it was at the Huntsman Center. If Utah wants to get on track for a high seed this is the game to do it with. Air Force as everyone know likes to slow it down and makes possessions count and if they do it right they should cause the Utes problem. Utah is the better team but this game and shoulb be one of the top 4 teams in the league when the year ends or they could end up 6th in the league and fall apart.

(9-12) (17-6)

The Pit 7PM MT TV:

New Mexico can be heard listening to Tom Petty 'Free Falling' ever since conference play began by having 4 of their 6 loses coming durnig MWC play. Wyoming has probably has one of the best backcourt duos in the league with Brandon Ewing and Brad Jones who combine for over 30 per game. New Mexico is the better team at home and should have this game in hand with Wyoming not the best of teams especially for a road game. Wyoming has been improving but overall this team does not have the overall athletes to compete with New Mexico, and for New Mexico this is a fresh start for the Lobos to get back into their winnings ways and try to make it back into the top 4 of league play.
