Conference hoops begins today

So the hoops portion of this site has been lacking, but that ends today. Today there are 4 games that get underway today.

(8-4)(8-3)

John M. Huntsman Center 12PM MT TV:

Do not let Air Forces record fool you they have played teams as Norfolk State, Dartmouth, Montana, Mississippi Valley State, Colorado Christian, and Prairie View A&M and of those games they only lost one game. Air Force is still a young team with a new coach, but they do have a great Freshman Evan Washington who scores close to 9 a game and looks to be their future in the upcoming years for Air Force. This is the Utes to finally get their chance to start their run toward a tournament berth and move back into the top of the conference standings. The way Air Force plays as everyone knows is to be efficient and run a methodical pace and try to slow down running teams. On the road this pace works well with experienced players and not underclassmen, also this years Air Force team is 1-3 on the road and as from mentioned above they have not played that many good teams their best road opponent is Wake Forest who they lost to. Utah however is at home and Air Force and they have a height advantage in all the players especially Luke Nevil who is over 7 feet tall and should dominate but it is up to Nevil to decide that. The Utes should dominate this game and get within 2 wins of last seasons win total which is 11.

(10-3) (6-7)

Moby Arena 3PM MT TV:

Colorado State is in the same situation as Air Force with a new coach and a young team that has scheduled patsies but does not have the record Air Force has. UNLV should runaway with this game, and the main reason is that UNLV has a great defense by getting 8 steals per game and they like to run. Look for Vegas to run the Rams out of the gym and win by at least 15 points this afternoon.

(12-2)(5-6)

Wyoming Auditorium 4PM MT TV: CSTV PPV

This will be Steve Alford's first visit to Laramie at 7,000 feet above sea level. Wyoming's record is not that good but they do have possibly the best player in the league in Brandon Ewing and at home so this game will be closer then expected. Wyoming is a tough place to play and New Mexico has struggled on the road so do not be surprised even if Wyoming pulls the upset, but New Mexico has veteran players and should win this game in a close one.

(8-4)(10-3)

Cox Arena 7PM PT TV:

This again looks to be a mismatch as have been all games today. TCU traditionally has not been good in basketball, even though they do have a good record they went the Air Force route of playing local lower teams from the SWAC and Southland leagues. TCU has 3 players who score in double figures and score in the mid 70's a game, but they also turn the ball over a lot and when you play good teams they will take advantage of those turnovers. Steve Fishers team should roll in this game and start off 1-0 in league play.
