Others Recieving Votes

Boston College 150, Georgia Tech 150, Miami (FL) 91, Notre Dame 90, South Carolina 90, Wake Forest 71, Missouri 58, Oregon State 52, Brigham Young 47, Clemson 30, Oregon 30, South Florida 26, Texas Tech 20, Alabama 16, Oklahoma State 15, Southern Miss 14, Iowa 12, Kansas State 8, Memphis 5, Houston 4, Arizona 1, Duke 1, Kentucky 1, Washington State 1.

First Florida got 9 first place votes and ranked 3rd, they lost most of the defense, have a new QB, and still no RB I think that is pretty generous. Then there is the Ol' Ball coach who always picks Duke 25th in the pre season poll. As for what we are here for, TCU is ranked 22nd and BYU is in the receiving votes section. This is huge for both squads but more importantly for TCU if they want to get a BCS game, because with the new rules implemented last year

(1) ranked among the top 12 teams in the final BCS Standings; or (2) ranked among the top 16 teams in the final BCS Standings and ranked higher than the champion of one of the conferences whose champion has an annual automatic berth in a BCS bowl.

Because being ranked or very close to it will provide a huge advantage. It is too bad this is the case I wish these polls came after week 3 games. Here is JUST an example Utah is not ranked now, but they play @ Oregon State who is receiving votes, UCLA at home and is ranked 17, and then Air Force during that span. IF the Utes were to win those games you would assume they would be ranked. However if the polls were first taken in week 3 they might be higher overall, because they would not have to climb as high. This goes for all teams outside from the conferences auto bids for BCS, because they same could be said for Fresno State who always plays tough teams and they are at a huge disadvantage by not being ranked right now and have a bigger road to climb. This happened to Auburn and Utah in 04 when both started outside the top 20 and couldn't climb high enough.
