Here is some conference news this week. I can smell it! camps open this week, every team has aspirations of a bowl bid and conference title. (OK we know only TCU, Utah, and BYU have a shot at the latter)
League news to start us off, apparently the Mountain West conference is desperate to get The Mtn. on TV because on the front page of the conference website has a link to a blogger link that is a petition for the station. Everyone go click here and sign, even if you dont care about the conference.
BYU has a bit of news, good and bad, with Coach Bronco Mendenhall getting a contract extension through 2011. My take on this is that Bronco has done exceptionally well getting the team to a top 20 rankings in just 2 years, but I think this extension is deserving, but premature. Being an AD I would have waited for at least one more to give an extension.
The other Cougar news stems from a water balloon incident in the spring which involved Vic So'to and Terrance Hooks who will be suspended for the opener against Arizona.
News from the University of Utah came in the form of the Ray Guy Watch List with Louis Sakoda being on of 5 punters on this national list.
Brian Johnson comments to the DesNews how he agrees with The Sporting News in saying the Utes are the best Non-BCS team.
TCU defensive end standout Tommy Blake keeps adding to his pre season award list to now include All-American honoree.
Looks like there will be a QB battle in Fort Worth as fall camp gets underway, between Marcus Jackson and Andy Dalton.
Air Force quarterback Shaun Carney participated in some early drills in Thursday's practice, but continued to rest a strained hamstring
