Mountain West Football Recruiting
2012 National Signing Day: San Diego State Announces Their Class
The San Diego St. Aztecs had one of their best recruiting classes in a long time as they came in with the No. 2 class in the Mountain West even with a pair of recruits being snatched up by BCS programs. San Diego State is a program that uses technology and they put out a ton of video about their signing day class, and they have highlights of every player in the class.
2012 National Signing Day: Nevada Announces Their Class
The Nevada Wolf Pack hauled in the third best class in the Mountain West this year. Their class was only 16 players, but they got quality in this class. Nevada did one of the better jobs of putting together content for their class. After the jump is the list Nevada put together which includes the essential location, height and weight; plus it includes a link to video footage as well as a brief one-sentence note on the prospect.
2012 National Signing Day: Hawaii Announces Their Class
The Hawaii Warriors are another newcomer to the league and their recruiting class suffered the same fate as Fresno State and Colorado State by brining in a new head coach. Even by bringing in Norm Chow he was unable to propel their class above the No. 7 spot within the Mountain West.
National Signing Day 2012: Colorado State Announces Their Class
The 2012 recruiting class for the Colorado St. Rams was ranked No. 9 out of the 10 teams, but that was to be somewhat expected as Colorado State has finished 3-9 over the past three years and brought in a new head coach.
With new head coach Jim McElwain coming in late he talked about how he put together his class which was primarily recruited by the former staff during his press conference:
"I think the thing is we did a great job on making sure we evaluate what is there. We did go out and pick up quite a few based on our connections, based on our evaluations, and worked feverishly through the night and on the road to make sure that we answered those character issues and pacesetter issues with each and every one of them. So as you can see there is a mix of both. Now one thing that we did do and I believe this as well, there were some of our players in this class that were committed and had commitments to the previous staff. You don't commit to a coach, you commit to a university. I felt it was important we stood behind some of those as well; the ones that waned to still be a part of a great university that is on the move."
McElwain also discussed recruiting they type of players he wanted:
"I think size and getting control of the line of scrimmage. You have to be strong up the middle. If you can't stop the run and you can't run, you are in for a long day. Being physical at the point of attack and everything you do gives you an opportunity to be successful. So I think we answered those needs. I say we think we answered those and we'll find out. Recruiting is an imperfect science. It isn't necessarily all about size. It isn't necessarily just about speed. It is about being a pacesetter. This program was built on pacesetters a while back and that is the direction we are going."

National Signing Day 2012: Boise State Announces Their Class
The Boise St. Broncos landed the top recruiting class in the Mountain West, well unless they decide to join the Big East a year early. Over at The Mtn. they put together a video and a paragraph about each recruit for Boise State. Here are those videos and a full list of commitments is after the jump.
2012 National Signing Day: Ranking The Mountain West
2012 National Signing Day is in the books and the Mountain West is rarely going to be ranked extremely high in the overall rankings, but the best way to judge the league is against itself. Below is how the Mountain West ranked within their league, and these rankings come from Rivals, Scout and 247 Sports.
The big surprise for me was how well New Mexico did for being a team that has been terrible over the past few years, and I expected Hawai'i to have a better class, but with a coaching change that can lose a team a lot of momentum.

Mountain West Football Recruiting 2012: In Google Map Form!
First off most of the credit for putting this together comes from GreekPadre so give him a congratulatory tweet. He put together most of this map. Look for other recruiting stuff in the day and the following few days with an updated list of recruits, but not in map form since we both realized this takes a LONG time to do, and trying to put it together two weeks before signing day was not the best idea.
Here is the map, pretty international. Also click on the link at the bottom for a bigger view that also gives a list of recruits per school.

Diddy's Son Had Offer At Wyoming, Opts For UCLA
Rapper, mogul, former good rapper or whatever you want to use to describe Sean "Diddy" Combs he can now also be called a Division I football dad. His sone Justin Combs from Iona Prep out of New Rochelle, N.Y., and has committed to play football for the UCLA Burins, and due to his father's connection sent out a press release saying his son who is a two-star recruit is heading to Westwood:
"Today I am truly blessed and thankful to accept my scholarship and give my full commitment to UCLA. Playing Division I football was a lifelong dream of mine, and through hard work I was able to achieve it. I am a living testament that with a strong relationship with God, family, and hard work dreams do come true."
So, you maybe asking what does this have to do with this here site. Well, Combs had a scholarship offer to play cornerback for the Wyoming Cowboys as well as offers from other lower level FBS schools such as UAB, Middle Tennessee State as well as one from Tennessee Tech, Illinois and Iowa. Being a two-star recruit I am sure that Combs was offered by UCLA and probably other schools for the name and not really his ability.
Who knows, maybe Diddy will send a sizable donation to help out with UCLA's coaching search.
