Colllege Basketball RPI

Checking In With the College Basketball RPI: 3/1/2010

As a league the Mountain West is rated 7th in the RPI.

All the RPI info was found at Real Time RPI.  Record indicates division one wins only.

Crunch time heading into March with only a few chances left to boost the RPI.  Basically wins from here on out are the best way for the top four teams to try to get into the NCAA tournament.

San Diego State had a huge win to bump up their RPI which will help the Aztecs if they make a deep run and become a decent at-large choice come tournament time.

Not much change this week in the RPI even with UNLV upsetting BYU over the weekend.  Three teams look to be a look, and San Diego State had their chance to get in the group but they lost a close one to New Mexico.  Their RPI at 41 could be good enough to make the tourney but they currently have 14 wins and to make the NCAAs they will need to get some big wins down the stretch and probably be in the conference tournament finals.

We had a few changes of significance this week.  Utah's loss to Wyoming dropped them out of the top 100, thus turning an eh loss for several teams into a bad loss.  New Mexico's win over BYU livened up the conference title race, but also helped both the Lobos and the Cougars.  New Mexico jumped to 12th, while BYU moved up a notch to 19, in spite of the loss.  San Diego State is getting close to (if not already in) the danger zone barring some big wins.  At 12-6, with only 10 regular season games left, 2 of them at BYU/New Mexico, they're going to have to notch some big upsets if they want a chance at an at large bid.
