2014 Mountain West football recruiting rankings: San Diego State hold top spot

Leon Halip

Signing day is upcoming on Wednesday and San Diego State is looking to get the best class.

National letter of intent day is in just under two days on Wednesday, and in the Mountain West it looks like San Diego State will be the paper winner on signing dayThe Aztecs class is pretty much done with 27 players and a very nice grab of 13 of those being a three-star player. However, this list goes by volume and when we take a look at average class rankings it puts Boise State at the top spot and the Aztecs fall to No. 4.

Rocky Long has done a great job of not only landing a high quality class -- per SDSU standards -- but it looks like he will be able to keep these players. There are plenty of last minute poaches when larger schools swoop in and offer a player who is committed to a different school because something else fell through.

Boise State has been on a role after losing about a dozen players to Washington, and they still have a few more spots to add to their class. What is surprising is that UNLV which went to their first bowl game in 13 seasons has the lowest rated Mountain West class. However, a lot of that has to do with the Rebels having just nine committed players. Wyoming with new head coach Craig Bohl is doing a decent job despite having been on the job for a short time.

This list will likely change even tomorrow, and especially through signing day and likely through Thursday. Nationally San Diego State is below the 50 percent line with just the 72nd rated class overall.
