San Diego State junior Jamaal Franklin was named the preseason player of the year in the Mountain West, plus the Aztecs are predicted to win the league.
The 2012-13 preseason Mountain West basketball awards have been announced, and for the order of finish, the media has selected the San Diego St. Aztecs as the regular season champion. San Diego State earned 10 of the 18 first-place votes, the other eight went to UNLV. The difference between San Diego State and UNLV is just two points.
It is not a surprise that both of those teams are so close at the top of the standings, as UNLV and San Diego State are far and away the best teams in the league. However, I can already hear New Mexico fans countering that claim, however they lost Drew Gordon who will be a tough player to replace.
The player of the year award went to San Diego State guard Jamaal Franklin. Last year, Franklin averaged 17.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Second place in this category had to be UNLV forward Mike Moser, last year he was an honorable mention All-American by the AP. Plus. he averaged a double-double, and he was a defensive presecene by averaging a block and two steals per game last season.
