The college basketball season is approaching with practices starting in less than two weeks, and in preparation SB Nation's basketball editor Mike Rutherford put together his top-100 players for the 2012-13 season. His list is thorough and the top 50 get a blurb about why they are a good player.
The Mountain West had two players make the cut in UNLV Runnin' Rebels Mike Moser who came in at No. 10, and San Diego St. Aztecs forward Jamaal Franklin who came in at No. 21.
Here is what Rutherford said about Franklin:
Franklin came from completely off the radar to average 17.4 points and 7.9 rebounds on his way to Mountain West Player of the Year honors a year ago. He's not going to sneak up on anyone this season.
Here is his blurb on Moser:
One of college basketball's biggest double-double threats, Moser's combination of size and athleticism is the biggest reason the Runnin' Rebels are a darkhorse national title contender.
The list is also full of teams from non-major schools and in his top-10 there are five from non-BCS schools, with three in the top-five coming from the Patriot, Missouri Valley and Ohio Valley Conference. Plus there is Tony Franklin from North Texas as well as Moser in his top 10.
Hoops season is just around the corner, and this should be another great year for Mountain West hoops.
