If someone asked me back in late September or even early October my answer would have been excitement since Wyoming is a team that was putting up huge passing yards and a decent amount of points. Then the past few weeks happened where Wyoming has had a rough go of it and fired defensive coordinator Chris Tormey after allowing back-to-back 50 point performances.
The Cowboys offense has been inconsistent the past few weeks and have lost three of their last four games, and are coming close to not making a bowl game. Even with these issues of late, Wyoming can not be discounted completely. Their offense still has playmakers like quarterback Brett Smith, wide receiver Robert Herron, running back Shaun Wick and others. If the Cowboys can put a good game plan together they can challenge a Fresno State defense that has proven to be vulnerable.
As for Fresno State they are in a desperate need of blowing out an opponent. There is a growing number of people calling for Fresno State the 2007 Hawaii team and not worthy of playing in a BCS bowl game. The Bulldogs only real blowout was a 61-14 win over a bad Idaho team, and somewhat of a blowout occurred last week against Nevada where Fresno State won 41-23.
Fresno State knows they are getting every teams best effort the further the season goes along since they are just a handful of undefeated teams left in college football. This is just the fourth-time ever that Fresno State will make the trek to War Memorial Stadium where they are 0-3, but the last time they played in Laramie, Wyo., was back in 1996.
The offense for Fresno State is not an issue but it is their defense, and Wyoming has the ability to make this game a shootout and give the Bulldogs a big time scare. That is a real possibility since the Bulldogs defense has not been all that great and they have been banged up in the secondary.
