Hawaii came very close to getting their first win last week but fell 28-21 in overtime against San Diego State/Wyoming is not doing much better as they have gone down hill by losing four in a row and five of their last six games. Safe to say that neither team is playing all that well.
Wyoming has the talent to win this game but they have been severely underachieving on the offensive side of the ball of late, and playing Hawaii could be the remedy to get that unit back on track. Quarterback Brett Smith should be able to find wide receiver Robert Herron all night, so we will see that duo can put up some big numbers. The Cowboys will need more than a Smith to Herron connection all afternoon; running back Shaun Wick and Brandon Miller need to help keep Hawaii's defense honest.
The difference for Wyoming in this game is their defense which has given up 49.75 points in their last four games, all loses. It is likely safe to say that the Cowboys defense can hold Hawaii to less than that amount of points. The most points the Warriors have scored all year are 37, and they did that twice.
Hawaii has picked up their game by going away from the quadrant of quarterbacks and sticking to just Sean Schroeder over the past few games. The loses still kept coming but the Hawaii offense looked better. Another reason that Hawaii could get the upset is that running Joey Iosefa is finally completely recovered from his fractured foot he suffered back during the summer.
Iosefa has 391 yards and two touchdowns in his last to games against Navy and Utah State. In those two games he logged an astonishing 72 carries. With Wyoming's rushing defense being poor this likely is Hawaii's best chance at getting the win.
Weather can be an issue playing at Wyoming but the forecast for Saturday's noon kick calls for clear skies but temperatures will be a brisk 30 degrees throughout the game. That could be an issue for the Warriors, as well as playing at 7,220 feet above sea level.
