San Diego State is traveling to take on a Wyoming team that is streaking at the end of the season.
San Diego State has won six games in a row and Wyoming has won three straight. This is the season finale for both teams, and the way Wyoming has been playing, there is a possibility that they could pull off the home upset.
Cowboys quarterback Brett Smith has been on fire and over the past three Wyoming wins, he has averaged 339 yards per game and has tossed 11 touchdowns. Those three games were against UNLV, Colorado State and New Mexico; so it was against the lesser competition in the Mountain West. However, playing so well against lesser competition could provide some confidence against San Diego State.
If Smith has another big game then this matchup could be a shootout. As has been said all year, San Diego State plays to their competition could make this game interesting.
The one area where San Diego State can easily take advantage is running the ball with Adam Muema and Walter Kazee. Wyoming is just terrible at stopping the run as they allow 217 yards per game which is 113th in the nation, and San Diego State rushes for 213 per game. So, if the running game gets going for the Aztecs, then this game could get out of hand.
Look for Wyoming to get some yards going in the air to keep this game close for about a half, but San Diego State should be able to run the ball well and slowly pull away in the second half.
Also, for those expecting some crazy Laramie weather on Saturday, sorry to disappoint but it should be in the low 50s and slight wind.
