Best of the 2000's Counting Down the Mountain West Top 10 Teams: #8 2000 Colorado State Rams


Now, it is time to continue the countdown of the decades best team, and now we move to the number eight spot.

#8 2000 Colorado State Rams (10-2)

Tha Rams are on the list for the second consecutive time.  This team also won a conference title and was only seven points away from an undefeated season.  Those two losses came on the road to Air Force and then Arizona State by a total of seven points.

Best of the 2000's Counting Down the Mountain West Top 10 Teams: #9 2002 Colorado State Rams

Now, it is time to continue the countdown of the decades best team, and now we move to the number nine spot.

#9 2002 Colorado State Rams (10-4)

Colorado State was the conference champs of the Mountain West that year and were the second best offense in the league with points scored.  Their only conference blemish came against a 5-7 UNLV where their running game rushed nearly 400 yards in the upset win over the Rams 36-33.

Best of the 2000's Best of the 2000's Counting Down the Mountain West Top 10 Teams: #10 2007 BYU Cougars

We now return to our regular programming since the very brief flirtation between Troy Calhoun and Tennessee is in the books. Now, it is time to continue the countdown of the decades best team.

#10 2007 BYU Cougars (11-2)

This was the start of the Max Hall era at BYU, but this team got off to a rocky start by starting the season 1-2 with loses to UCLA and Tulsa.  After those games BYU ended up going undefeated but this was not a dominant BYU team as they have been in the past.  Five of their wins came by ten points or less, and against bad teams such as UNLV and a mediocre New Mexico Lobos squad.

Best of the 2000's Counting Down the Mountain West Top 10 Teams: Honorable Mention List

After a brief hiatus from the countdown we are back to countdown the top 10 teams of the decade.  The Mountain West is a young league as this was the eleventh year of the league and the past three years have seen the league improve exponentially.   Today we discuss the teams that almost made the cut for the top 10 list, and for a hint the top 10 is lead by TCU, Utah, and BYU.

2003 Utah Utes

This was the precursor to Utah's undefeated 2004 team.  The Utes that year went 10-2 finished the season with two shutouts that were against their rival BYU and then Southern Miss in the Liberty, and finished with a modest 21st national ranking.

This year so the emergence of QB Alex Smith who took over for Brett Elliot who broke his wrist in the Texas A&M game that the Utes lost.  Well, the rest his history as the only game Smith lost as a starter was against New Mexico, and that game featured up and coming Coach Urban Meyer who gave a Tim Tebow-esque speech about how that he would not have a performance as bad as the Utes played that day.
