The Mountain West released its all-conference awards and it was all San Diego State. The Aztecs took home offensive player of the year in running back Donnel Pumphrey, defensive player of the year in defensive back Damontae Kazee and Rashaad Penny as special teams player of the year. Rocky Long was named coach of the year, and the only individual honor to not go to San Diego State was freshman of the year which went to Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien.
The Aztecs went undefeated in conference play thus earning these awards, but one can argue -- or at least me -- that New Mexico's Bob Davie had a good argument to win coach of the year for his continual turnaround with the Lobos.
The running back and quarterback positions were the most contested and it was Rypien who took home the first-team quarterback and Colorado State's Nick Stevens for the second-team signal caller. Pumphrey earned first team running back honors along with San Jose State's Tyler Ervin, and the second team went to Wyoming's Brian Hill and Boise State's Jeremy McNichols.
Boise State led the first team offensive selections with four and were followed by San Diego State with three. On the defensive side of the ball it was a tie for three selections between Air Force and the Aztecs.
