I've heard several people talk about the dominating defense of Boise State being clearly the premier defense in the Mountain West. Given their production against UConn, I can see why. Their stats were easily the best in the conference... I mean, no one else could do what they did to the Huskies, right?
Wrong. Shown below is a comparison of Boise State's stats versus UConn next to Utah State's production against Wake Forest.

Neither UConn nor Wake is anything close to a powerhouse team, of course, but neither is clearly superior or inferior to the other either. Massey's composite ranking, which averages dozens of the biggest ranking systems in the country, has Wake Forest as the 103rd ranked team in the country and UConn at the 106th spot. Not much is separating them, so it's not exactly as if one team had played Ohio State and the other Idaho Tech. Who is really the premier defense of the conference?
