The Colorado State Rams were arguably the biggest winners of the weekend with their triumph in Friday's Rocky Mountain Showdown, and the conference has honored that win in its first batch of weekly recognition.
Running back Dee Hart and kicker Jared Roberts were named the Mountain West Players of the Week on offense and special teams for their efforts in CSU's 31-17 win. Hart did a lot to solve the team's running back conundrum, pounding the Buffaloes for 174 offensive yards and two scores, while Roberts nailed a 52-yard field goal that was one of the longest in the FBS's opening weekend and helped the Rams win the field position battle with four touchbacks among six kickoffs.
On defense, linebacker Mark Nzeocha led the Wyoming Cowboys to a victory in head coach Craig Bohl's debut against the Montana Grizzlies. The senior finished with 12 tackles, had the Pokes' only sack of the game, and was credited with the pass defense that ended Montana's comeback hopes.
