Sweet 16: Arizona Wildcats team profile

Donald Miralle

Here is a first look at Pac-12's Arizona Wildcats.

The rematch is set in the Sweet 16 with the San Diego State Aztecs getting another crack at the Arizona Wildcats. These two teams played back in mid-November with Arizona wining 79-70, but the two teams are very different now than they were four months ago.

We will get into the details of these new teams, but in the mean time let's look and see what the Wildcats have done to this point.

How they got here: At-large NCAA tournament team. Defeated No. 16 Weber State (68-59), No. 8 Gonzaga (84-61)

Record: 32-4

RPI: 1

SOS: 4

BPI: 2

KenPom: 2

Despite playing without Brandon Ashley who suffered a season-ending foot injury back in February has not really hurt the Wildcats this season. They are 13-4 since Ashley is out but that is enough games to find a replacement and also time for the team to gel.

Watching Sunday night's beat down over Gonzaga it is clear that Arizona is still a really good team. The Wildcats were able to force 21 turnovers and score 31 points off those miscues. San Diego State should be able to hold onto the ball much better, and also the Aztecs defense is vastly superior over the Bulldogs.

The key player to watch for Arizona is freshman Aaron Gordon who scored 18 points on 8 of 10 shooting, six rebound, six assists, four steals and at least five dunks. Gordon is not getting the same hype as Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins but his play is about on par as those two projected top-three future NBA Draft selections.
