Earlier today legendary personnel man Gil Brandt reported that safety/cornerback Marqueston Huff was working out for the Carolina Panthers this morning. Well now you can add on two more Cowboy draft hopefuls to that visit list for Carolina.
Quarterback Brett Smith and wide receiver Robert Herron are both working out for the Panthers per Brandt.
Smith started 35 games, throwing for 8,834 yards with 76 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,529 yards with 20 touchdowns. He was the 2011 Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year. As for Herron he was a two-time honorable mention All-Mountain West Confernce (2012-13) selection. In 2013 he started all 12 games, leading the team with nine receiving touchdowns and was second on the team with 72 receptions and 937 yards.
Carolina is likely looking for a young quarterback to come in and back-up Cam Newton. With the loss of Steve Smith for the Panthers, Herron makes a lot of sense in that role. Herron has been compared by many to Smith through the years due to their compact build, ability to get off the line of scrimmage and in/out of breaks very quickly.
