The Oakland Raiders really like Derek Carr

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Even though the Raiders just acquired Matt Schaub, the team is still high on Derek Carr.

Former Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr is slowly inching up the draft boards as the fourth quarterback in this 2014 NFL Draft class. One time is not shying away from expressing their love for Carr, and that franchise is the Oakland Raiders.

The Raiders did recently land Matt Schaub and head coach Dennis Allen feels that the former Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons signal caller has three or four years left as a starter in the NFL. That certainly would give the Raiders the option to be patient with whoever their next starting quarterback would be.

The Raiders have the fifth overall pick, but that would be too high to take Carr so Oakland would likely need to trade down to get a mid-round pick to land Carr at the appropriate spot and get some extra draft picks or players in the process.

The one problem with that lies at the No. 8 pick which belongs to the Minnesota Vikings. So, the Raiders would hope that the Vikings pass on Carr at eight, Oakland might need to trade with the Vikings to give them a higher pick and allow them to get a hold of either Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles or Teddy Bridgewater or just trade down just two spots to No. 7 so that they are still ahead of the Vikings. A lot of what ifs there but the NFL Draft can have a lot of moving parts.

There are a lot of things that can happen in the draft, but realistically the Raiders probably could get Carr in the mid-20s and there would be no need to trade ahead of or with the Vikings to ensure they get Carr.
