The Mountain West baseball season gets under way this weekend with many games and with the season beginning the coaches put in their votes for what team will win the league this year, as well as the all-conference team.
New Mexico won the Mountain West regular season while San Diego State won the conference tournament in 2013, and the coaches feel that those two schools are the biggest threat to win the league in 2014. Each team earned 43 points and three first-place votes, but UNLV is not far behind as they earned the final first-place vote and 40 points overall.
The Lobos are led by NCBWA preseason third team All-American, and preseason All-Mountain West, Josh Walker, a senior pitcher. Overall, New Mexico earned four total players for the preseason Mountain West honors, UNLV followed with three and San Diego State had two members selected. Fresno State and San Jose State were the only two who did not have player named to the preseason all-league team.
