Nevada injury update: Devin Combs has torn ACL, Cody Fajarado questionable

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Nevada head coach Brian Polian provided a lot of updates regarding injured players at his weekly press conference.

The injury bug has hit the Nevada Wolf Pack hard early into the season, and the latest injury news is not good at all. At head coach Brian Polian's press conference he obviously was going to be asked about starting quarterback Cody Fajardo's status for the upcoming game against Hawaii.

Farjardo's status was already in question for this week's game, and Polian confirmed that he is officially questionable, yet hopeful. Polian is already bothered by the Fajardo questions, "I'm not going to go through this every day this week about, 'Where's he at today?'"

Hopeful or not, Polian better hope that Fajardo can go because backup quarterback Devin Combs is out for the season with a torn ACL which he suffered during the Florida State loss. Combs proved to be very effective against the Seminoles and is a great backup quarterback.

Chris Murray of the Reno Gazette-Journal pin points the 2:30 mark left in the first quarter for when Combs tore his ACL; meaning he played the entire second quarter and some with that injury.

With Combs out and Fajardo questionable for Sautrday, next in line is redshirt freshman Tyler Stewart. Stewart came in during the second half against Florida State and did not play well, but that could have been from being tossed into a tough environment for his first game. Polian has confidence for Stewart and of course he does because what else would Polian say. Luckily this week's opponent is Hawaii and that should allow for Stewart to have a good game, assuming he starts.

The other injury news is that Chris Solomon has earned the starting running back spot over Don Jackson and Kendall Brock, the latter two have missed time due to injury. Polian also said that he does not believe in the saying that players can not lose their starting job to injury and said, "I don't believe in that. I believe in Wally Pipp."

Solomon had a very good showing against Florida State with 108 yards and he should have some good success against a lesser opponent in Hawaii.
