2014 Boise State Football Recruiting: California Running Back choses the Broncos

A star Bay Area running back is the 6th commitment so far in the 2014 class and the 4th overall out of California.

Milpitas High School RB Squally Canada knew where he wanted to play college football when he made the trip up to Idaho last week to check out the Boise State campus. And on that visit he got an offer from the Broncos he wasn’t about to turn down. With his dad by his side, the coaches told him they wouldn’t recruit any more running backs if he committed and promised not to talk with other schools. “It’s an equal street,” he said after accepting the offer.

Scout.com has given Canada has a three star ranking and notes that he also had other offers from Colorado, Washington State, Houston, Colorado State and Nevada. But Canada is standing firm on his commitment to the Broncos. “[Boise State] were always number 1,” he said. “They showed the most interest.”

Canada should have a real impact on what will be a depleted 2014 offense with a very young pack of five RB’s scrambling out of the backfield. Canada could play a key role in that situation because there will also be a new starting quarterback as well. He is expected to immediately challenge for the spot behind the QB. He certainly has the speed and talent to get the job. Last year as a high school junior he rushed 127 times for 987 yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry. Six of those carries were for touchdowns in seven games.

It has to help to have a dad behind him that is also a track coach.
