2013 NCAA tournament: Colorado State has coaching to make a tourney run

Richard Mackson-US PRESSWIRE

Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy is leading is fourth team to the NCAA tournament, and could be a factor if the Rams are going to make a run.

Some factors that always give teams an edge come NCAA tournament time is experience, coaching and guard play. Those are factors that Colorado State possess, and the biggest one is coaching.

Head coach Larry Eustachy is guiding his fourth team to the NCAA tournament, and even the starting five for Colorado State is chalk full of seniors, they will rely on Eustachy's experience for as long as they can in this tournament:

Eustachy also guided Southern Miss, Iowa State and Utah State to the NCAA tournament before coming to Fort Collins when Miles left for Nebraska.

"I think coaching is really overrated," Eustachy insisted Sunday. "Particularly in this situation. All coaches are pretty good if they get into the tournament. Players win games. Coaches don't win them."

While he is right that coaches don't win games, but he has been to the tournament plenty of times to know when to make that crucial substitue or call a time out to help his team.

Colorado State also is a team that went to the 2012 NCAA tournmanet so that is just another added bonus to go along with a tourney experienced coach and the upperclassmen who dominant the minutes. All of those things add up for Colorado State to be a tough out, but the biggest item the Rams need is to have a completely healthy Dorian Green come Thursday against Missouri.

If Colorado State gets past Missouri they are facing a tough challenge against No. 1 seed Louisville.
