Hawai'i has landed their first recrurit for their 2014 class when defensive back Daniel Lewis (New Iberia, La./New Iberia) verbally committed to Hawai'i on Tuesday. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound DB only had one scholarship from Hawai'i, but he had interest from LSU, Boise State, Southern Miss, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Lafayette, Ole Miss, UCLA, Tulane and Texas A&M.
That interest is all over the place, and for Lewis to head way out West to Hawai'i could open up some more players from talent-rich Louisiana, if he stays true to his commitment in 11 months when he can sign his letter of intent. Louisiana has 14 players rated as four-stars are higher, with four of those being five-star players for the 2014 class.
Lewis comes in as a three-star player, has an 81 rating, he is ranked as the state's 24th best player and nationally is the 59th defensive back. This is a solid grab for Hawai'i as they desperately need to improver their defense.
