2013 Hawaii football recruiting: Warriors land RB Aofaga Wily

MARCO GARCIA-US PRESSWIRE

Hawaii landed the best running back in the state when Aofaga Wily verbally committed to attend Hawaii.

Hawai'i landed a big verbal commit over the past weekend when three-star runnning back Aofaga Wily (Kahuku, Hawaii/Kahuku) decided to stay home and play for Norm Chow in Hawai'i. Aofaga is Hawai'i'is top rated running back and the sixth best player in the state.

He chose Hawai'i over offers he had from Arizona, Nevada and Washington. Wily's size probably kept other top level schools from recruiting him, he stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 185 pounds. He has the credentials of a top player by being named to the all-state team for three years, and in 2012 he was named the state's top offensive player.

In his senior year he rushed for 1,744 yards and 27 touchdowns, and he set the record for most rushing yards at his high school. This is a huge get for Norm Chow who is looking to transform Hawai'i to a more pro-style offense, and away from the four- and five-wide receiver sets. The passing will still be there, but a solid running game is needed to get the offense Chow wants.

Wily ultimately decided to play at Hawai'i so that he can stay close to home and play in front of friends and family.
