Nevada adds Toledo, Purdue to future non-conference schedule

MARCO GARCIA-US PRESSWIRE

Nevada was able to secure a home-and-home with Toledo and Purdue in the upcoming years.

The Nevada Wolf Pack is busy filling out their future non-conference football schedule. The latest additions are playing the Purdue Boilermakers on Sept. 24, 2016 in West Lafayette, Ind., and the return game is set for Reno on Aug. 31, 2019. This will be the first two times that the schools will have ever met on the gridiron.

Here is Nevada's non-conference schedule for 2016 and 2019:

2016
09/03 - at California
09/10 - Cal Poly
09/17 - UCLA
09/24 - Purdue

2019
08/31 - Purdue
09/07 - at Oregon
09/21 - at BYU

The other game has Nevada entering in some MACtion against the Toledo Rockets. The first game will be played in Reno on Sept. 9, 2017 with the second game being played at the Glass Bowl in Toledo on Sept. 22, 2018.

Here is Nevada's 2017 and 2018 non-conference schedule:

2017
09/02 - at Washington State
09/09 - Toledo
09/16 - at Oregon State

2018
09/08 - at Washington
09/15 - Oregon State
09/22 - at Toledo

Nevada is giving their team no favors with their non-conference schedule over the next six years. They are playing at least two BCS schools each year, then a solid game with BYU three times from 2013-2019 and then just two FCS teams.

However, the Purdue add is actually very good since Purdue is not an upper level Big Ten team that is a guaranteed loss, but rather the two schools are fairly close to each other. Meaning if Nevada gets a win it is a quality win in the perception nationally, while a loss is not that bad since it is a Big Ten team.

Toledo is also a good add since they are typically an above average MAC team with an offense that is very good, overall these are good games for Nevada to add to the schedule.
