San Jose State WR Noel Grigsby could be back for bowl game

The Spartans just might be getting star wide receiver Noel Grigsby back in in the lineup for San Jose State's bowl game.

San Jose State could be getting back one their all-time best receivers for the post season, assuming the Spartans make a bowl game. Star wide receiver Noel Grigsby has been sidelined since the middle of September with a knee injury that saw him play just two games this season.

Grigsby had successful surgery on a torn meniscus of the left knee, and head coach Ron Caragher told the San Jose Mercury News that he is optimistic about Grigsby's return.

"I feel good about it," Caragher said. "My understanding from the athletic training group is everything is being picked up so that'd be really exciting to get Noel back to cap off a great career."

Grigsby on the other hand is approaching his return with some caution:

"I would like to say yes, but unfortunately it would be out of my hands," he said. "It depends on how my body reacts and what the trainers tell me. I'm not going to do anything that they wouldn't tell me I'm able to do."

By not having Grigsby in the lineup likely has cost the Spartans a few games, and with Chandler Jones being one of the best wide receivers in the Mountain West could have given San Jose State one of the receiver combinations in the Mountain West.

Prior to the injury, Grigsby had 237 catches and 3,121 yards and second with 17 touchdowns. All three were the best ever for a San Jose State player, but Jones has surpassed those marks and is just 34 yards from passing Grigsby. Grigsby is not eligible for a medial redshirt so if he does play in a possible bowl game then he will likely not be at 100 percent.
