College basketball rankings, Week 5: San Diego State ranking in AP, left out in coaches poll

Kent Horner

San Diego State is ranked for the first time this season, but only in the AP poll despite defeating two ranked teams last week.

The San Diego St. Aztecs had a great week by winning the Wooden Legacy Tournament where they beat formerly ranked Creighton and Marquette. Despite winning that tournament over those two ranked teams, the Aztecs are only ranked in the AP poll where they come in at No. 24.

One would think that with a 5-1 record and the only loss that San Diego State has received came in a close call against Arizona who is undefeated and ranked No. 2 in both polls.

New Mexico and Boise State are both getting consideration in both polls and those two could be ranked in the next week or two if they do not falter.
