When the Utah State Aggies lost star quarterback Chuckie Keeton to a torn ACL against BYU back on Oct. 4 and then lost to Boise State the week after, a lot of people felt that the Aggies season was over. At that point the Aggies were considered an after thought in the Mountain West. Since that loss to Boise State the Aggies have very quietly won four straight games and now control their path to the Mountain West title game.
Utah State and Boise State each had one conference loss since the middle of October, and with the season rapidly coming to a close it seemed that the Aggies chance at getting to the Mountain West title game were slim. Boise State was playing well with easy wins over Colorado State and Wyoming, and even though they were traveling on the road to San Diego State the Broncos were favored to win.
San Diego State ended up playing a great game on Saturday night and upset Boise State at home in an overtime, and since Utah State defeated Colorado State 13-0 earlier in the day the Aggies now have a one-game lead over Boise State in the Mountain Division.
All that Utah State needs to do to earn a spot in the inaugural Mountain West title game is do defeat a 5-6 Wyoming team at home this upcoming Saturday. Boise State can still get back into the title game if they beat New Mexico and then they need Wyoming to defeat Utah State.
Utah State head coach Matt Wells is pumped for his team, and knows they need to finish.
We MUST....Finish the drill! #1-0 #AggieNation
