Utah State vs. Hawaii plan to play game as scheduled

Russ Isabella-US PRESSWIRE

Hawaii is still stuck in Los Angeles and may not leave to get to Utah until late Friday night, yet scheduled game vs. Utah State is still a go for the 4 p.m. ET kick.

The shooting at Los Angeles International Airport Friday morning has caused a big headache for the Hawaii Warriors football team. Hawaii is still stuck in Los Angles and the incident at the airport was not the only hold up. The charter plane that was to carry the team was rerouted to Arizona for most of the day, and Norm Chow says that the team may not be able to leave until 10 p.m. PT, at the earliest.

The team is to fly into Ogden, Utah, and that is still at least an hour drive to Utah State and may not arrive until 2 a.m. MT on Saturday, and kickoff would be 12 hours from then.

With the delay there has been talk of delaying or even postponing the game, however Utah State associate athletic director Doug Hoffman says there are no alternate plans being discussed at this time:

"All indications are that they (the Rainbow Warriors) will get into Logan, Utah, tonight, it is just a matter of when."

"With that being said, there are really no alternative plans in place right now," he said. "We're expecting Hawaii to get in tonight and (the game) to start at its original time."

While Hoffman is not working on alternate arrangements, Mountain West officials have been in discussions to find alternate ways to play the game. With the game on CBS Sports Network that also complicates delaying the game since the network is to broadcast Boise State vs. Colorado State directly after at 8 p.m. ET.

There also was an idea floating of Hawaii to bus it from Los Angeles to Logan, but that is not feasible unless the game was pushed back because that bus ride would take about 14 hours.
