UNLV running back Tim Cornett is doubtful against Nevada

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Starting UNLV running back Tim Cornett may not see the field against rival Nevada on Saturday night.

UNLV has won four of their last five games and are going up against rival Nevada this week, but they may not have star running back Tim Cornett. Cornett left last week's game against Fresno State with a right knee injury, and as of Tuesday night he is not expected to play.

"We'll try all the way up to game time to see if we can get him out there,"  UNLV head coach Bobby Hauck told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "He's got to be able to go in order to do it. If not, then somebody else has got to go."

Losing Cornett is a big deal for the Rebels and if he is unable to go  then look for UNLV to go with Shaquille Murray-Lawrence or Adonis Smith as the starter. Murray-Lawrence has had the better season between the two juniors with 359 yards and two touchdowns, while Smith has rushed for just 56 yards but has scored two touchdowns. UNLV could also give a few carries to freshman Keith Whitely.

If UNLV wants to paint the Fremont Cannon red this year then they will really need Cornett to suit up and be close to 100 percent against Nevada.
