UNLV's Anthony Marshall (front) and SDSU's Jamaal Franklin - Ethan Miller
Week 11 marks the second week of Mountain West Conference men's basketball and it's a doozy, with the league's contenders all going head to head both Wednesday and Saturday. MW has the schedule or you as well as our weekly poll.
The Mountain West Conference enters week 11 rated as the 3rd best conference in the land in terms of RPI and 2nd best by USA Today's Jeff Sagarin.
Four of the week's games are televised - all of them being important early conference tests. Here's your top three games of the week
- The No. 24 UNLV Runnin' Rebels @ the No. 16/15 San Diego St. Aztecs, Wed. 1/16/13, CBS Sports Network - Round one of the league's most spirited rivalry sees both teams coming off a week that included close victories.UNLV has looked shaky (with a loss in The Pit and OT win at home over the Air Force Falcons) and seeks to grab an advantage in league play with a road win. SDSU looks to protect home court and stay atop the MWC - and undefeated.
- The No. 25 New Mexico Lobos @ the Boise St. Broncos, Wed. 1/16/13, 7 p.m., Root Sports - It's a unlikely battle of undefeated teams as the Broncos look to establish themselves in the MWC elite and continue the momentum created with their road win at Wyoming. The Lobos look to grab the early initiative a remain atop the league.
- The No. 16/15 San Diego St. at the Wyoming Cowboys, Sat. 1/19/13, Time Warner Cable SportsNet - This game gets the nod over UNLV@the Colorado St. Rams because of two factors - 1) the Aztecs historical troubles at Laramie against the Cowboys and 2) this will be the game that includes a ranked team (SDSU - UNLV is likely to fall out of the Top 25 due to the loss at UNM and shaky OT game against AFA).)
