Fresno State's Tyler Johnson scored 19 points, including converting a pair of three-pointers in the final two minutes, as the Bulldogs bested Air Force 61-59 in the opening round of the Mountain West tournament. Make no mistake, this was an ugly game and Fresno State was able to win by getting to the free throw line a few more times than Air Force and also making one more three-point shot.
Fresno State shot just 33 percent from the field and was only 5 of 19 from beyond the arc; while Air Force was not much better by shooting 44 percent from the field and made 4 of 15 from three-point range. This was not a solid offensive effort by either team.
Air Force nearly walked away with the game in the second half as they bolted out to a 26-10 to go up 50-37 with 8:24 to play, and the the Falcons offense stuttered.
Fresno State stormed back by going on a 14-6 run which saw Alex Davis make all six of his free throw attempts, and Johnson sinking back-to-back three-pointers to give the lead back to Fresno State for the win.
Up next for Fresno State is No. 2 seeded New Mexico, and the game tips at 9 p.m. ET an can be seen on CBS Sports Network.
