With Syracuse unexpectedly losing at home to Boston College and then dropping a close game at Duke, there is a new number one in college basketball. This time, Florida is at the top of the polls while an unbeaten Wichita State team now claims the second spot in the Associated Press. Had Syracuse lost to only Duke, they would have likely dropped at least two spots. The loss at home to an unranked Boston College team didn't hurt them much as they land at No. 4.
San Diego State had a convincing home win against Utah State and then lost just as convincingly to New Mexico at the Pit. For their efforts, they fell seven places in the AP and six spots in the Coaches Poll to end up No. 13 in both polls. On the flip side, New Mexico was rewarded for their win over San Diego State and is now No. 25. The Lobos were last in the AP in Week 3 when they were No. 19. New Mexico is still knocking on the door of the Coaches Poll. They received 45 votes and are effectively No 27.
North Carolina and Southern Methodist were also added this week as Connecticut, UCLA and Gonzaga were dropped.
