The 2012 Mountain West Football media days are upon us, and if you missed the schedule of events, please go back and read this if for nothing else a good laugh. The event is under way in Las Vegas and the preseason media poll has been released and to no ones surprise, the Boise St. Broncos are predicted to win the league.
Boise State earned 27 of the 30 media votes with the others going to the Fresno St. Bulldogs who earned two, and for some reason the San Diego St. Aztecs earned a vote. I am wondering if the media member who gave the Aztecs a first place vote knows that Ryan Lindley and Ronnie Hillman are not in the team, maybe he just used last years ballot.
Looking at the numbers, Boise State also earned two second place and (gasp!) a third place vote from one media member. Nevada is in second place despite earning zero first place votes, and that is probably right since they host the top teams in the league in Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Wyoming; while going on the road for the lower half of the league. Not a bad draw for Nevada, however traveling to Hawaii is always tough.
Personally I thought Fresno State would have been labeled as the preseason favorites since they have the best quarterback and running back combo, however their offensive line and defense are in question. Boise State has earned the credit even when they turnover the majority of their roster which includes the NCAA's all-time winning quarterback in Kellen Moore while replacing him with a first time starter. The can at least earn the title of paper champions until college football games get underway.
Here is the preseason order of finish:
