Before the 2012 Draft, I wrote that San Diego State RB Ronnie Hillman would likely be taken in the 5th or 6th round, mostly due to concerns about durability. Boy was I wrong.
The Denver Broncos traded up in the third round to select Ronnie Hillman at no. 67. It was obvious that they liked what they saw in Hillman, and expect him to fit in well with their offense. Perhaps more importantly, they expect Hillman to fill a number of rolls. He will immediately compete to be the Broncos' primary kick returner.
Although Hillman spent just two years at San Diego State, he made quite the impression. In 26 games played with the Aztecs, Hillman amassed 3,243 yards, third most in school history. He also scored 38 touchdowns in those 26 games.
Hillman will join a running back corps that includes Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno. As a complimentary back, Hillman should have more of a chance of staying healthy while he develops his game a bit.
Congratulations to Ronnie Hillman, one of the most electric players San Diego State has ever seen.
