Mountain West Basketball Standings: New Mexico Is In First Place

The New Mexico Lobos were the preseason favorites for the Mountain West, but after they stumbled will finally get the respect they deserve from the top 25 polls after their 20-point win over UNLV on Saturday. This was a huge win not just because it gives New Mexico a two game lead in the Mountain West, but the 20-point win was on CBS so a lot more people saw the game had it be on CBS Sports.

Then there is San Diego State who lost to Air Force to put them in a tie for second place with UNLV at 6-4. Colorado State is sitting at 5-5 and still gets to play New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV so they have a shot to move up the standings and possibly get back into the NCAA tournament picture.

These past two weeks have been crazy, so I would not be surprised if Colorado State somehow gets into the top three.
