I've read on this site that TV households in certain cities really don't matter because blah, blah, blah. Basketball doesn't count because of blah, blah, blah.
I've spent 20 years on the marketing side of the media. While it might sound good to promote your views you are presenting an incorrect view from the media standpoint. Eyeballs are important and the Big East wins hands down. While basketball is not the driving force the content and viewership are important. People do tend to have loyalty to what they are familiar with. If you follow Big East basketball, say Providence, you are likely to show interest in the Big East football as well.
The real question is how long will the Big East be able to hold these numbers. One thing that is certain is these numbers will hold for 2013 and Boise and San Diego will benefit financially as well as from increased national exposure.
