Russ Isabella-US PRESSWIRE

Utah State has interviewed offensive coordinator Matt Wells for their open head coaching job.

While a lot of the staff from Utah State is expected to follow Gary Andersen to Wisconsin, there is still hope in Aggieville as offensive coordinator Matt Wells could be the next head coach. Wells has already been interviewed for the head coaching job, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

Utah State athletic director Scott Barnes is moving fast by interviewing Wells on Wednesday, and according to the same Salt Lake Tribune report, Wells is the leading candidate. Keeping Wells on staff would be huge, because there needs to be some continuity for the players so that there is not a mass exodus of players who could look to transfer.

Wells has only been an offensive coordinator for one year, but his results in that first year were great in leading Utah State to having the No. 23 ranked offense in the country. Also, keeping Wells will help make sure sophomore quarterback Chuckie Keeton stays in a Utah State uniform.
