San Jose State coaching search: Raiders QB coach John DeFilippo reportedly to interview

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

San Jose State is reportedly going to interview Raiders quarterback coach John DeFilippo to replace Mike MacIntyre.

The San Jose St. Spartans are sorting through their resumes to find their new head coach. University of San Diego head coach Ron Caragher has already said that he has interviewed for the open spot.

The next rumored candidate to be considered is Oakland Raiders quarterback coach John DeFlippo. CoachingSearch.com first reported the news that DeFlippo was going to interview to replace the departed MacIntyre.

The San Jose Mercury News reached out to DeFilippo about the vacancy at San Jose State:

"First of all, let me say I couldn't be happier for Mike MacIntyre and his family," DeFilippo said Thursday. "Mike did an unbelievable job at San Jose State. I love the place. It's a great place. My effort, 100 percent is on the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend and getting Carson (Palmer), Matt (Leinart) and Terrelle (Pryor) ready to go to 100 percent of their ability."

Not a surprise that he was going to deny that he had an interview, or that he had any interest in the job, because that is just part of the gig.

DeFilippo is no stranger to the Spartans program as he was the teams quarterback coach in 2010-11, as well as their offensive coordinator in 2011. For his career, DeFilippo has never been a head coach at any level, but he has spent seven years at the college level as well as five in the NFL.
