The on-campus stadium for the Colorado State football team is one step closer to completion as the Colorado State board of governors unanimously voted to move forward with the on-campus stadium project.

The boards endorsement carries the caveat that $125 million -- which is half of the total cost of the stadium -- will be raised within the next two years. The other half is being issued as a line of credit, and the school will begin planning on how to cover the other $125 million.

Before the vote happened, some members wanted to know what would happen if the funds were not raised within two years:

"I think that depends on where we are," [Colorado State president Tony] Frank said. "If we're at $120 million and the donations are coming in in a pretty steady line, I think I'd come forward and say I think this makes sense. If we're at $30 million and most of that was raised in the first year, then that would lead me to a very different conclusion."

This approval by the board just approves that Frank can go out and fundraise the money need for the stadium, so the proposed 42,000 seat stadium is not yet out of the woods of becoming a reality -- but it is close.

There was a portion of the meeting open to take public question's and none of them were supporting the stadium. The complaints were on the topic of noise pollution, over valuing sports and degrading women's sports. There will always be detractors in terms of a new football stadium.
