SDSU hoops lands a biggie: James Johnson
Steve Fisher lands a much needed big man for next season. In so doing, he also adds to an already stellar recruiting class.

How exactly is the San Diego State recruiting class “stellar”? Methinks you may be embellishing a bit.

A comment from the linked article
This year’s #22-ranked SDSU guards (6’2" Tapley, 6’5" Jamaal, 6’5" Rahon, 6’3" Thames and 6’2" LB) are all back, as are forwards 6’8" Stephens and 6’6" Williams; these seven players will be joined by nationally acclaimed bigs (6’11" James Johnson, 6"9" Skylar Spenser, 6’7" J.J. OBrien, 6’7" Dwayne Polle, 6’6" Matt Shrigley plus one more scholarship to be identified). That’s a deep roster of 14 top quality men. OBrien and Polle are already practicing with the team.
Homer comment.
Spenser is a 2 star recruit. JJ O’Brien was a 3 star recruit. And Shrigley is a 3 star shooting guard recruit. James Johnson and Pollee are nice I guess but that’s hardly a “stellar” class.
Especially when conference rival UNLV just reeled in former McDonalds All American, Khem Birch, is returning Quintrell Thomas, Carlos Lopez and Mike Moser next year and signed Demetris Morant.
And that recruiting class is going to look sorry when UNLV lands Shabazz or Anthony Bennett. Sorry but SDSU won’t compare to UNLV next year.

Speaking of homer comments.....
when UNLV lands Shabazz or Anthony Bennett
What makes it a stellar class is the fact that the incoming players happen to match up perfectly with the only thing State lacks this year, BIGS! No doubt UNLV has an awesome class next year as well but that doesn’t mean State’s isn’t very good in it’s own right. It’s a lot better than any other MWC school outside of UNLV that’s for sure.
SDSU returning starters > UNLV returning starters and if you think otherwise you’re simply mistaken. UNLV is a better team than State this year only because the ‘tecs lack depth. UNLV plays like trash on the road, how could you have not noticed that?
Also, the only thing that “looks sorry” is UNLV’s record vs State the last 3 years ;)

No doubt
San Diego State has won a school-record five consecutive games against the Rebels and SDSU
has defeated UNLV in eight of the last nine encounters.
Also, the Aztecs have also defeated the Runnin’ Rebels four straight times at the MWC Championship. The
last three have taken place on the Thomas & Mack Center floor, including the 2010 title game and the 2011 semifinal game.

Star ratings can be misleading
You don’t recruit in a vacuum. You recruit based on the style you play and team need.
