UPDATE: Fresno State Reportedly Hires Utah's Dave Schramm To Be Offensive Coordinator

Yesterday there were reports flowing out that Utah Utes running back coach Dave Schramm has been hired by Fresno State to be their offensive coordinator. So far the web site CoachingSearch.com has reported that Schramm has been hired, and Football Scoop has reported that Schramm has been offered the job but has not gone on to say he has taken the job. Those are the only two sources at the moment about this move. Those two sites are right more often than not, but there should still be some skepticism about these reports.

Schramm has been at Utah since 2005 and was the co-offensive coordinator in 2009 and 2010 for Utah. This past year he was back coaching the running backs since Utah brought in Norm Chow to be their offensive coordinator. If Schramm is on the move it is because he was not going to become the offensive coordinator at Utah, so he took a better position with Fresno State.

Schramm has coached some good running backs in his time at Utah with Matt Asiata, Eddie Wide, Darrell Mack, John White IV, all who have surpassed 1,000 yards per year.

UPDATE: According to Bill Reilly, who does the play-by-play for Utah football, spoke with Schramm after Utah's Sun Bowl win and will be taking the offensive coordinator position at Fresno State.

After tonight’s Utah win in the Hyundai Sun Bowl, I spoke with Utah Running Backs Coach Dave Schramm who told me that he has been offered the Offensive Coordinator’s Position at Fresno State University. Schramm tells me that he will accept the position on Tim DeRuyter’s staff.

Not sure

He ran the spread at Utah because that was the talent and what was ran under Andy Ludwig before he left. I would lean toward Schramm running a more pro-style set, but I don’t really know the Fresno talent all that well to make a good assumption.

Fresno has the talent to run the spread with talented WRs like Jalen Saunders, Josh Harper, Victor Dean, and Carr at QB and RB Rouse back for his senior year

watching most games on espn 3 it felt like Hill restricted Carr at time with the run first mentality, hopefully Schramm sees this and air raid opposing defenses

thanks

Schramm has experience in an open attack. The spread attack Utah ran was similar to Oregon where that it was a wide open run first attack out of the shot gun with three to four wide outs and just one back. Once the run was established he would open up a passing attack

but with running this offense, will it hinder carr's draft prospects?

not necessarily

Schramm ran it nearly 50/50 but out of a spread formation. His version at Utah was pretty balanced with both passing and running plays running out of the same formation. It is not like Houston orTexas Tech’s offense.

thanks for the info

Looking forward to 2012 season now. Haven’t been this excited about this new offense scheme since offensive coordinator now CSU head coach McElwain left the program in 08.
